Announcement

               In recognition of March as Intellectual Disability Awareness Month, The Philadelphia Right t o Education Task Force

 wants to recognize a teacher from his/her outstanding services to children with disabilities:

        Special Educator of Students with Cognitive Disabilities

       Criteria:

        1)    Nominee must be appointed Special Education Teacher

        2)       Nominee must currently teach fulltime in a Philadelphia School,  K- Transition Age.

        3)       Nominee must teach a self contained Life Skills Support(LSS) or Multiple Disabilities Support Class(MDS).

        4)       We are looking for teachers who go above and beyond the expectations of their job, who have improved the outcome and understanding of children with cognitive disabilities, who have received praise from parents and/or students, and/or have

         implemented the least restrictive environment successfully.    

                 5)    Previous winners are not eligible  

   

     Nomination Procedure:

              Parents, Students, Faculty, Administrators and others can make a nomination

        (1)       Print form or send the following information:

·         Nomination Type (MR)

·         Teachers Name

·         School

·         Grade levels

·         Class type (MDS, LSS, etc)

·         In 300 words or less, write a narrative as to why the Task Force should select this teacher.  Do not include in the

        narrative the names of the teacher, school, region or any other identifying information.  (“The teacher has taught at

        her school” as opposed to “Mrs.  Brown has taught at Center High school” )

·         Your name, telephone number, and your relationship to the nominee (Teacher, parent, etc).  There can be only one

        nomination per person, per category.

          2)       Mail forms to:

DEADLINE TO RECEIVE NOMINATIONS IS March 7, 2008

The two runner ups in each category will receive an honorable mention.

    Winner will be selected by a committee that includes   parents and professional
    members of the Right to Education Task Force and may also include supporters, retired and current
    teachers of Regular and Special Education, and administrators.;Selection, since based on anecdotal
   information, is inherently subjective and Award does ;not claim to be based on any other criteria.
   Committee members will not be able to participate in making selections in a category in which they have
   made a nomination, nor can Nominees participate in the selection.
