ACCOMPLISHMENTS
*100 additional list server and web newsletter subscribers * 3rd "High School and Beyond" informational * Promoted the High School Fair to the Special Education community * Held our 3rd Open Mike Night with the Office of Specialized Services * Instigated the first transition fair held at a Charter School * Renewed our participation in the Autism Education Advisory Committee * featured in "The Notebook" and the Family Forum and now receive media coverage * Instrumental in numerous sessions for the new IDEA regulations * Established live hotline support by a parent every Friday * Formed an Action Council to do systemic Advocacy * Developed and distributed a district wide "Call for Action" plan * Successful advocacy against budget cuts by our Action Council * Increased involvement in SRC activites, meetings & city's town hall meetings on Education * Attended and participated in Chapter 14 roundtable discussions * Opened dialog with the City's Education Advisory Committee * Obtained ability to reach every home in the district by television & Auto-Dialer * Active roll in the School District's 1st Family Resource Fair * Addressed the 1st Special Education Charter School Conference * Provided resources tables and support throughout the year * Sponsored the 3rd Autism Awareness Night with the Phillies, with House Speaker Dennis O'Brien and State Senator Michael Stack with over 2000 in attendance * Held a successful summit with SRC member, Sandra Dungee-Glenn on the issues faced in Special Education * 2nd Dispute Resolution training * Held A Philadelphia reception for the new State Special Education Director, John Tommasini * Gained substantial support from the School District's Office of Communication * Gained tremendous support and backing from the ARC of Philadelphia * Facilitated an Access to the CORE Curriculum parent training by OSS * Co-hosted with the ARC of Philadelphia ," meet the Mayor Candidates night and Resource Fair" * Hosted a training by the PA ARC on writing effective IEP goals. * Presented our Crystal Stairs' Teacher award for both MR & Autism Awareness months * Active representation in the State Task Force meetings & conference * Maintained good profile from professional & district members * Designed and Purchased promotional buttons, hats & pens * Began development of relationships with the PLA (parent leadership academy), Title I committee, parents united, SPAC (State Parent Advisory Council) and the SRC Parent Group * Task Force officer involvement in every public & charter school cyclical monitoring and Least Restrictive Environment Targeted monitoring in Philadelphia * Input in the special education plan & budget And, most importantly, disseminated information to parents to help meet their children’s educational needs and provided resources and directions to needed support and services | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
